Students Tackle the Society’s Modern Challenges in AELP 2023

From 18-24 June 2023, 40 students from 22 ASEAN universities gathered in Singapore to explore and envision the concept of ‘Smart Nation’ in the return of the ASEAN Experiential Learning Programme (AELP).Hosted by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), the ASEAN Experiential Programme 2023 took the students through the island of Singapore to learn about what makes a nation ‘smart’? In the face of emerging challenges like urban density, overconsumption, environmental change, and digital transformation, will ‘Smart Nation’ hold the key to quality living in the long run, and how?The students took on these challenges with experiential visits, real-world applications, and dialogues with experts in each field. What would be their answers to the challenges our modern society is facing? What would their ‘Smart Nation’ of the future look like? Stay tuned and let them surprise you!

AUN UPDATES

The CALOHEA project achieved yet another significant milestone with the successful convening of its 6th General Meeting in Kuala Lumpur. From 7-9 June 2023, a gathering of 80 participants, including experts, academics, and stakeholders across Southeast Asia and Europe, converged to delve into diverse agendas on the project’s progress on the implementation of three key Recognition Mechanisms, specially in the authentic assessment of internationally comparable learning outcomes in degree programs, setting the stage for the enhanced internationalization opportunities for students in ASEAN higher education.

The Spectacular Collaboration of Delegates in the Closing Ceremony of AYCF 2023 and Insightful Student InterviewsThe closing ceremony of AYCF 2023 brought out a vibrant spectacle of traditional Indonesian performances! Delegates performed the traditional Minang and Betawi dances along with a melodial demonstration of the Angklung instrument. The AUN-QA team has got a bit of an extended overview covering 3 weeks in June 2023 going over the 331st, 332nd, and 333rd programme assessments. So far it has been quite the month of milestones! The University of Danang conducted their 10th programme assessment with AUN-QA, along with Prince of Songkla University and Thai Nguyen University having their first on-site visit programme assessments. Now, all PAs are significant steps forward for university programmes, but milestones like these sure does make a PA all the more special!

Last 12 April 2023, the ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC), housed at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), organized a webinar entitled “From Rivers to Streams: A Situationer on Ecological Education and Culture”. The webinar marked the first event of AUN-EEC under their year-long theme on “Ecosystems Restoration & Reconciliation Ecology”, which is itself situated against the broader setting of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration running from 2021-2030.

Chula Inventions and Innovations Win Several International Awards at ITEX 2023Six Chula researchers and innovators were awarded 10 prizes for contributing to the sciences and technology with their inventions at the 34th ITEX 2023. The exhibition was held in Kuala Lumpur from 11-12 May 2023 with participants from 16 different countries. Participants from Thailand with over forty inventions were selected to join by the NRCT and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. This year’s theme and criteria focused on novelty, application, presentation, marketability, and environmental friendliness. Winning innovations ranged from a functional nano gel, a mathematical educational toy, an application for tourism, a rapid test kit for halal food products, and more.

ISET 2023 and RCEnvE 2023
