Why You Should Attend?

To fully grasp the non-relay specific principles of power station protection as their seminar proceeds from the basic concepts, such as security, reliability and duplication of power system protection through to a comprehensive consideration of protection of the generator and all station plant such as motors, busbars and other ancillary systems.

What You Can Learn From:

  • Acquire an understanding of induction motor protection, including thermal protection, negative phase sequence supply effects, loss of supply, starting and stalling over current, earth fault and differential protection
  • Consider generator differential protection, voltage displacement protection, stator earth fault protection, 3rd harmonic protection, inter-turn protection and rotor earth fault protection
  • Understand the difference between power station generator faults, generator events and power system events; and the associated implications of generator protection design
  • Build an appreciation for the philosophy of tripping as slowly as possible as applied to protecting generators from local and remote events such as overload, unbalanced loading, over and under excitation, over and under frequency, reverse power, pole slipping and embedded generation disconnection at the point of common coupling
