University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) 2023

About the USLS

The USLS is Humanitarian Affairs Asia’s signature program. It fosters young leaders’ initiative and capacity to initiate socially meaningful projects to address climate change, poverty and inequality. With the collaboration of UN agencies and partner government departments, delegates are empowered to start-up projects to contribute to the UNSDGs.

Approximately 1,200 emerging world leaders from over 100 United Nations Member States are expected at this prestigious youth leadership event, which focuses on developing leaders to bring about social change. Since our first inception in 2010, more than 10,000 emerging world leaders have benefitted from the USLS.

Our Strategic Knowledge and Partners include UNEP, UNESCO, UNHCR, UNDRR, UNFPA, UN-WOMEN, IOM, and other UN agencies.

Highlights at the USLS

Kindness Day. An experiential learning day where delegates contribute to the advancement of the People and the Planet through volunteerism that advances the UNSDGs, specifically humankind, animal welfare, and environmental protection. Activities range from volunteering at the biggest slums in Bangkok, to caring for the rescued elephants, to planting mangroves in order to mitigate the climate crisis.

Thematic Workshops by UN-Agencies. Delegates can attend workshop sessions based on their interest. Topics include Green Jobs for Youth, Narrow the Gap of Gender Equality, and Making Better Policies for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Humanitarian Speakers. Our inspirational speakers have gained international acclaim and recognition for their humanitarian work. Their inspirational stories of survival in the face of adversity and loss bring hope by demonstrating the extraordinary strength of the human spirit.

Praise for USLS

“I am delighted to recommend the incredible work and activities of Humanitarian Affairs Asia, a work that I have witnessed for the past years. The capacity of Humanitarian Affairs Asia to convene brilliant minds, inspire young audiences, lead important and relevant conversations, instill a sense of duty and rightness in today’s youth, and contribute to building stronger, resilient, and inclusive communities and societies, is like nothing else I have ever encountered in civil society”.
