Metropolitan College of Boston University provides an opportunity for ITB students – undergraduate or graduate students – to study for 1 semester at BU at a discounted (partnership) tuition rate. Under the supervision of the International Relations Office (IRO ITB) of the Bureau of Partnerships ITB, Boston University partners with ITB for the following programs:
- Undergraduate Semester Program
- Graduate Certificate Program
Undergraduate Semester Program
The MET International Undergraduate Semester Program consists of three (3) to five (5) courses (12 – 20 BU credits) taken during one semester. Students may elect to apply to participate for one additional semester. Program participants select courses, subject to availability, from Metropolitan College (MET) undergraduate course offerings. The Program start date will be BU’s then current fall and spring semester start dates.
Language Proficiency
ITB’s undergraduate students interested in participating in the program must show one of the following:
- TOEFL IBT: Total Score of 84 – Reading 21, Listening 18, Speaking 23, and Writing 22 (Boston University – MET International Partnership Program TOEFL code: 8675, Dept. code 99); or
- IELTS: 6.5 – of the 4 sub scores, no sub scores may be lower than 6.5.
- Duolingo: 110
Academic Requirements
- Completed minimum of one (1) year undergraduate university studies at ITB
- Suggested academic grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Immunizations
Proof of immunization against the following communicable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap), hepatitis-B and varicella. In the case of varicella, proof of the disease can be accepted in place of an immunization record. Students who choose to reside on campus must also present proof of (bacterial) meningitis immunization. This proof must be submitted to BU prior to the start of classes. Additional immunizations and a tuberculosis skin test may be required.
Application and Supporting Materials
For each Program participant, ITB shall provide to BU:
- A completed Application Form
- Complete official transcripts or notarized full-sized copies of all previous college and/or university study
- Registration form with Academic Advisor Signature
Graduate Certificate Program
MET International Graduate Certificate Program consists of intensive 16 credit programs offered on Boston University’s main campus in Boston, MA, in specific academic disciplines, requiring one semester to complete. The program start dates will be BU’s then current fall and spring semester start dates.
Upon the successful completion of a MET International Graduate Certificate Program in Administrative Sciences, students are eligible to apply for a semester-long, credit-bearing internship in the United States. Upon successful completion of this internship program, students are awarded an Advanced Certificate. The internship start dates will be BU’s then current spring semester or summer 1 start dates.
Upon successful completion of a MET International Graduate Certificate program, a student may transfer credits earned in the Graduate Certificate program, and any credits from courses taken at ITB that satisfy Metropolitan College’s policy on waiving or transferring credits and that have been approved by the appropriate Metropolitan College department for transfer credit, to an appropriate Metropolitan College Master’s Degree Program.

- Three Letters of Recommendation
- Signed Learning Agreement
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae
- Statement of Purpose
