PARE Summer School

As a short-term study opportunity, PARE Summer School will be introduced in a scheme of Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI 2023), same as HSI 2022 held last summer and for those wishing to study here longer,we would like to support preparation on finding a supervisor and available lectures here. Please call for application using the attached “OGGs – PARE Application 2023″ and “Application forms”.

No.of Nominated students: from each consortium university (Basic Program-short) – from July 3 to Aug.4 (Max.2 months)

Participants from consortium universities are required to attend following courses held in Hokkaido:

1) PBL(Compulsory): International Co-trained PBL for Problem Solving(Choose either Presentation style or Theater style) ~ July 3 – July 7, 2023 (1credit)2)  Introduction to SDGs (Compulsory): Awareness of Glocal Issues and International Collaboration ~July 10~14, 2023 (1credit)3) Introduction to SDGs (Elective): Populations-Activities-Resources-Environments Chain in Asian Countries and Japan ~ July 18-21, 2023 (1credit)4) SDGs Field study (Compulsory): Summer School in JAPAN  (PARE)~ July 24 – August 4 (2 credits)

Finances

  • Scholarship: JASSO scholarship are not promised but you may apply for JASSO when it’s announced by HSI2023. (For reference) JASSO Scholarship: 80,000 Yen/month *OGGs Central Office may be able to support some travel expenses (the amount which almost covers Air fare), but please understand that it is not 100%.
  • Air ticket will NOT be provided
  • Dormitory or cheaper accommodation can be suggested and arranged for those who applied through HSI website at lower cost (depending on availability, however, it costs normally around 1,000 yen/day + utilities, so if one stays over 3 weeks for the program, room charge can be estimated around 30,000 -40,000yen or so. Transportation cost to campus (normally around 700 yen round trip/day), food and shopping costs would need to be added. *Kindly note that this estimation is subject to change).  Please ask Summer School 2022 participants from your university for more detail about cost.
  • Participation Fee for Summer School 2023 is 40,000JPY (It may be changed).

Status

  • Status of Special Auditor will be given at HU for those who are admitted for Basic program participants. 5 credits (please check above) will be officially given after completion of the school.
  • Upon completion, HU official transcripts will be offered and the credits can be transferred at your institution

  2. Recommendation Letter from Academic Advisor & Study Program (Please use this template);
  3. Financial Guarantee Letter (Please use this template);
  4. Health Guarantee Letter (Please use this template);
  5. Recent CV
  6. Applicants must possess a competent command of spoken and written English, which corresponds to:
    • IELTS: a minimum of 6 for the Writing sub-test
    • TOEFL: a minimum of 570 (paper) or 90 (internet) or 237 (computer)
    • SAT1: a minimum of 600 for the Verbal section; or 7 for the Essay section
    • IB: a minimum of 6 for Higher level English
    • MUET: Band 6 and a minimum of 50 for writing
    General Paper of the Singapore Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level Examination: A,
    B, C, D or E
