Exploring Hiroshima University with AIMS: Bagas & Ilham’s Exchange Experience (2023–2024)
Through AIMS program, four ITB students, Ilham, Adam, Bagas, and Dwiki, had the opportunity to experience academic and cultural life at Hiroshima University.
They shared their journey throughout the program, from the application process and campus life to the courses they took and the personal experiences that shaped their time in Japan. Their story offers valuable insights for students who are considering studying abroad through AIMS program.

During the exchange semester, they had the chance to experience not only academic life at Hiroshima University, but also the beauty and uniqueness of Japanese culture. They were introduced to Japan’s work culture, hospitality, daily lifestyle, and social environment, all of which gave them a broader understanding of life beyond their home university.
One of the most memorable parts of the exchange was the opportunity to meet new friends from various countries and backgrounds. Interacting with other international students, especially those from the HUSA exchange program, allowed them to share, compare, and reflect on different life experiences. These friendships became an important part of their journey and made their time in Hiroshima even more meaningful.

The program also came with several reflections and suggestions for improvement. One of the challenges was that during the second half of the semester, particularly in Term 4, there were fewer mandatory classes. As a result, students sometimes felt unsure about what to do aside from continuing their research. They suggested that offering optional classes related to Japanese culture could make the second half of the program more engaging and enriching.
Overall, the AIMS Hiroshima University program became a meaningful and memorable experience. It allowed them to learn, grow, build international friendships, and gain new perspectives through both academic and cultural exposure.
