Immigration Report
A. Obtaining KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card)
After reporting to the Police, once you get the STM, you must convert your VITAS (Limited Stay Permit Visa) into ITAS (Limited Stay Permit) at the Immigration Office within 7 days of your arrival to get the KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card) The ITAS application will be followed by the Multiple Exit Re-entry Permit (MERP) application. The following are the documents to prepare:
- A letter of recommendation from the Directorate of Partnership and International Relations of ITB
- A letter of Study Permit
- A letter of sponsorship
- A copy of KTP (Indonesian ID Card) of the guarantor
- A copy of your passport (pages of: your ID, VITAS, and Arrival date)
- A Letter of Domicile from the Local Distric Office (kantor Kelurahan)
- Application forms (form 24, provided by the Immigration Office)
The process takes around 7-10 working days. On the day you propose the ITAS on the 2nd floor of the Immigration Office of Bandung – Jl. Surapati No. 82, you will be told to return after 2-3 days to pay. Then in 2 days after, you will be told to return to get your finger printed and to get your photo taken. Then in 3 days after, you will receive the KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card). KITAS is extendable. Again, before you apply for the extension, you will have to submit for a new Study Permit.
B. Converting your VKSB (Social Cultural Visit Visa) into KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card)
For those who arrive to Indonesia using VKSB but intend to stay for more than six months then you must immediately process the conversion of your VKSB into ITAS within seven days of your arrival. First, a Study Permit must be applied to DIKTI (the Directorate General of Higher Education of Indonesia – Jakarta) before you can apply for ITAS. You should also report to the Police, to get the STM. While processing your Study Permit (which might takes 2-3 months) you may have to extend your VKSB as necessary to the Immigration Office. The VKSB can be extended for max four times of 30 days each). In the first extension, the VKSB will be converted into ITKSB (Ijin Tinggal Kunjugan Sosial Budaya – Social Cultural Visit Stay Permit).
The following are the documents to prepare for the extension of VKSB/ ITKSB:
- A letter of recommendation from the Directorate of Partnership and International Relations of ITB
- A letter of guarantee from ITB
- A copy of KTP (Indonesian ID Card) of the guarantor
- A copy of your passport (pages of: your ID, VKSB, and Arrival date); and
- For the first VKSB extension and conversion to ITKSB (Ijin Tinggal Kunjungan Sosial Budaya – Social Cultural Visit Stay Permit): Application forms (form 23, provided by the Immigration Office); or
- For the second extension of ITKSB: Application forms (form 23, provided by the Immigration Office, form 26 for Alien Registration/ Pelaporan Orang Asing) and two 3×4 photographs; or
- For the third – fourth extension of ITKSB: Application form (form 23, provided by the Immigration Office) and Proof of Alien Registration/ Pelaporan Orang Asing obtained in the second extension of ITKSB.
Once your Study Permit is approved, you must convert your VKSB/ ITKSB into ITAS (Limited Stay Permit) at the Immigration Office to get the KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card). The ITAS application will be followed by the Multiple Exit Re-entry Permit (MERP) application. The following are the documents to prepare:

- A Letter of Domicile from the Local Distric Office (kantor Kelurahan)
- Application forms (form 24, provided by the Immigration Office)
The process takes around 30 working days. On the day you propose the ITAS on the 2nd floor of the Immigration Office of Bandung – Jl. Surapati No. 82, you will be told to return after 5 days to pay. Then the next day, you will be told to take a letter from Immigration Office to be submitted to the Kantor Wilayah Hukum dan HAM Bandung – Jl. Jakarta No. 27. After 1-2 days, you can take the approval letter from Kantor Wilayah Hukum dan HAM Bandung to be submitted to the Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi (Directorate General of Immigration) Jakarta. The process in Directorate General of Immigration will take around 14 working days. After 14 working days, you can take the stay permit approval letter from Directorate General of Immigration to be submitted to the Immigration Office in Bandung. On the same day, you will get your finger printed and to get your photo taken. Then in 5 days after, you will receive the KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Card). KITAS is extendable. Again, before you apply for the extension, you will have to submit for a new Study Permit.
C. Change Address of Domicile
Anytime you move out to another different place, you must immediately report the new address to the Resort Police Office (for STM) and the Immigration Office.
The following documents need to be prepared to report to the Resort Police Office:
- Copy of passport and KITAS
- A copy of the KTP (Indonesian ID Card) of the host
The following documents need to be prepared to report to the Immigration Office:
- A letter of recommendation from the Directorate of Partnership and International Relations of ITB
- A letter from sub-district office (kantor Kecamatan). To obtain this letter, you need a letter from RT, RW and village office (kantor Kelurahan)
- Passport and KITAS
- Copy of passport and KITAS
- Application form (form 27, provided by the Immigration Office)
Failure to do this can only be overcome through the payment of IDR 25 million fine.
D. New Passport Registration
When you got a new passport, please report it to the Immigration Office. The documents needed are as follow:
- A letter of recommendation from the Directorate of Partnership and International Relations of ITB
- Application form (form 27, provided by the Immigration Office)
- Old passport, new passport and KITAS
- Copy of old passport, new passport and KITAS

All the process above can be done in the Immigration Office, 2nd floor.
