Nishimura International Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the International Scholarship for ITB Alumni who are interested in pursuing Master’s or Doctoral studies in Japan for the April 2027 intake.
This scholarship is specifically intended for Indonesian citizens who are alumni of Institut Teknologi Bandung and wish to continue their studies at selected universities in Japan through the domestic application track in Indonesia.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Indonesian citizens who are alumni of Institut Teknologi Bandung.
- Applicants who are interested in pursuing Master’s or Doctoral studies at one of the following universities in Japan for the April 2027 intake: The University of Osaka, Osaka Metropolitan University, Kansai University, Kyoto University, Kobe University, Ritsumeikan University, Kwansei Gakuin University, University of Hyogo, Doshisha University, Kansai Medical University, Kindai University, Osaka University of Economics, Osaka Institute of Technology, and Setsunan University.
- Applicants who will study at their own expense at one of the universities listed above.
- Applicants who will study online from Indonesia at the listed universities are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Applicants who personally experience financial difficulties or are considered unable to fully cover their living expenses while studying in Japan.
- Applicants with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 and a minimum Master’s GPA of 3.50.
- Applicants who have Japanese language proficiency or a strong motivation to learn Japanese.
- Applicants who have an interest in Japanese culture and society, and a willingness to contribute to strengthening relations between Indonesia and Japan.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Applicants are required to prepare the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae in Japanese or English.
- Research proposal in Japanese or English.
- Motivational letter in Japanese or English.
- Legalized diploma and academic transcript in English.
- Japanese or English language proficiency certificate.
- Recommendation letter from an academic supervisor.
- Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from a prospective academic supervisor at the university in Japan.
- Recommendation letter from one of the following: academic supervisor, Head of Study Program, or Dean, addressed to Nishimura Foundation.
- Official Letter of Acceptance from the university may be submitted later after the announcement of the entrance examination results, around February 2027.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND DEADLINE
- The application deadline is December 5, 2026 for students who will begin their studies in April 2027. All documents must arrive in Yogyakarta by December 5, 2026.
- The official admission announcement letter from the university in Japan may be submitted later after the official result is released, usually around mid-February.
- There is no application or selection fee for this scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
Successful applicants will receive the following benefits:
- Living allowance of JPY 130,000 per month.
- Scholarship period: 2 years for Master’s degree and 3 years for Doctoral degree.
- The scholarship will be cancelled if the applicant is not accepted by one of the listed universities in Japan, even if they have passed the scholarship selection.
- The scholarship will be disbursed once every three months.
- Upon arrival in Japan, based on the recommendation from the host university, scholarship recipients will receive a one-time allowance of JPY 150,000 as reimbursement for airfare and initial settlement expenses in Japan.
